What is a premises licence?
A single licence granted by the licensing authority allowing one or more of the licensable activities to take place on the premises.
A premises licence may be granted for :
- A permanent building or structure or part of building;
- An open space such as the area where a market is held;
- A temporary or moveable structure such as a mobile bar,a beer tent or marquee;
- A vehicle such as a burger van,a coach or limousine;
- A vessel such as a floating restaurant or canal boat.
For how long does a premises licence last?
Once granted, the licence will continue until such time as the:
- Licence is revoked;
- Premises are not used for licensable activities;
- premises licence holder (where this is an individual) dies,becomes incapacitated or bankrupt;
- Licence is surrendered.
Some premises licenses relate only to short-term events such as festivals or concerts and as such will be limited to within these times.
Who may apply for premises licence?
- An individual aged 18 or over;
- A company which operates the the business;
- An organisation such as a charity or education institution.
When the licence is granted, the individual, company or organisation becomes the premises licence holder with responsibility from the legal operation of the premises.
